That is a beautiful tree and will only increase in size and magnificence! I've been dragging my feet on reading Kimmerer's book for too long, thanks for the reminder.

I feel about that way in midsummer 😂 But this weekend I got to be around some lilacs just opening and they were very welcome.

If you haven't seen Midsommar the movie... I'm not sure I recommend it, but I enjoyed it 🤣

Agreed on this past Winter being like the guest that couldn't take the hint. Perhaps this Spring will be short and we'll launch full-on into Summer shortly as well.

Fingers crossed!

I was up on one of my favorite logging roads yesterday which was delightful for two ... well, three actually, primary reasons. 1) I didn't encounter a single other person which, given it's both Mothers Day weekend and UM graduation weekend, isn't something that can be said about any other trail near Missoula; 2) I got to get face-to-face with abundant blooming Arrowleaf Balsamroot which, to date this spring, I'd only seen from a fair distance; and 3) the flowers are blooming magnificently on the serviceberry bushes. Glorious!

Happy spring...and condolences, again, on this Mother's Day.

Your reference to shad running triggered a memory I had almost completely forgotten:

In the part of the world where I grew up, community fish frys, associated with annual herring runs, were a big deal. I didn't (and don't) care much for seafood, so I was usually bored when my parents dragged me to them. But in retrospect, I cherish all these seasonal rites throughout the year!

We used to have fish fries with the shad run down this way until pollution killed most of them.
