"a man dressed as a literal hedge-wizard, Kalbacius le Sorceleur!" Interesting: don’t often encounter 'hedge' as occupational adjtective these days. But once upon a time... https://greensdictofslang.com/entry/cumteea#gyeanpq
Ha! I think I heard this instance first in an '80s computer game, where it was used against a wizard to call them a fraud. It's nice to finally know the origin! I that's one of the many benefits of knowing you.
Nice captures and good to see the Black-crowned Night Herons are still in the area. Further up river and to the West here in Ottawa, many of the herons seemed to have left. I hope you got some good eats in Montreal!
I forgot you were upriver! I'm glad to see some of the same herons, perhaps.
We ate like sybarites. Joe Beef, Garde Manger, St Viateur bagels, Korean BBQ, Jean Talon market, Wolf and Workman, Olive et Gourmand, Schwartz's... The seafood is incredible. We even stopped at Costco to get bagels and smoked meat to take home, and Armagnac at the duty free!
Whoa - that's definitely good-eating! I remember first hearing about Joe Beef on Anthony Bourdain's (RIP) old travel series. St. Viateur and Schwartz's are definites and great to hear you ate at both!
I loved Anthony. So sad to lose him. I take the "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die" thing very seriously when I travel. I had no trouble at the border either direction, but these days, who knows...
I have all the birds now. *temples fingers and laughs maniacally*
But seriously, the hummingbirds are back and I'm so excited.
They are always a pleasure.
"Where the cormorants scud,
In his house on stilts high among beaks
And palavers of birds"

I really ought to read him more.

Not that you're a friend with benefits...
My home town of 30 years ... a splendid city, with many fine birds too
I love the city. May flee there if necessary.
