Let it Snow!
and be my junco pardner...
If you see a half dozen little black-and-white cookies of a bird flitting around in the snow together, they are likely Dark-Eyed Juncos. They come back every winter, little puffballs of cute twittery, and I never fail to appreciate them. This time of year, if I venture outside, I mostly have them, White-Breasted Nuthatches, various woodpeckers, and Northern Flickers for company.
I don’t let a little snow keep me from riding. The first morning that the temperature was above 20℉, I was out there. A good ride warms you up quickly, but I wear ski gloves to keep my fingers toasty.
I like the snow because I mostly have the trail to myself; I met one snow hiker this morning, and saw a few tracks here and there, but managed to ride on some fresh powder. Snow keeps the e-bikers and their mopeds at home.
The snow has already melted, and I wore shorts as I listened to the joy of the sparrows appreciating the rain puddles. The warm front will pass by morning, and they’ll be puffing up for warmth again. I haven’t put any seed in the Bird Buddy camera this year. There are leaf piles around the yard for insects to hide in and be nibbled upon by birds. I get more enjoyment from seeing birds in the trees than captured while at a feeder.
Have Merry Christmas, a Happy Hannukah, a pleasant Yule, whichever you celebrate. I will be brumating for the next week or two, and will return with stories from my adventures inside my shell.

Hope that you and Sarah both have a wonderful holiday season, and a new year filled with foxes, birds, and books!
